The Brighton Youth Commission (BYC) is a body of 20 youth and 6 adults that are appointed by City Council to study and investigate matters impacting youth in The City of Brighton. The BYC plans and implements projects addressing these matters.
The Brighton Youth Commissioners go through an application process and are selected based on leadership, commitment, and desire to make an impact in their community. They are representatives for the city and their specific schools. The Brighton Youth commissioners meet twice a month, serve at community events, and host special service projects throughout the year. Commissioners serve a two year term. Applications are always being accepted at the City of Brighton’s Office of Youth Services. Interviews are held every year in May.
In 2012, the Brighton Youth Commission was the recipient of the National Philanthropy Day in Colorado Award for Outstanding Youth Group.
